Oh, good Heavens, I’ve got more stories than you can sit and listen to! I started out working in a flower shop for 15 cents an hour. I worked there five weeks, then had an offer for a job for more money. So, I went to work for E.B. & Mrs. Schwaderer up mowing their lawn. Took me 8 hours to do that big lawn up there where Prieskorn lives now. I spent time there, and had other lawns around town.
I came to Cable, and I stayed there 32 1/2 years. I was on the floor for 3 years, …then I had a chance to get promoted. I got into the tool crib, and that’s where I stayed ’til the day I retired. ‘Course Stan [Guinther] was there. He retired and tried to get me to retire too, because he’d say, ‘You never know how long you’re gonna live.’ And I’d say, ‘Well, I don’t care how long I live, but it’s what I want to do when I retire.’ So, mostly what him and I did when we retired was deer huntin’, pheasant huntin’, and just sportsmen, like that.” Do you enjoy your life? With a big, mischievous smile on his face, he answered, “Enjoy my WIFE? Oh, yes! Definitely I do!” He winks at me, knowing his wife is standing behind him. Our interview was then cut short, as we were told to get back to work.
